This paper explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing functional literacy, a critical competency for the 21st century. Focusing on AI's capabilities to personalize learning, foster critical thinking, and enhance problem-solving skills, the study investigates how AI tools can be integrated into education systems effectively. The challenges of implementation, including ethical concerns, accessibility barriers, and teacher preparedness, are also examined. Through a detailed review of existing research and case studies, this paper highlights strategies to maximize the potential of AI in fostering equitable and inclusive education. The findings underscore the necessity for collaborative efforts between educators, policymakers, and technologists to realize AI's full potential in addressing contemporary educational needs.
