This paper presents a comprehensive study on the development and application of intelligent fiber-optic strain sensors for monitoring building structures. The integration of fiber-optic technology with structural health monitoring systems provides high precision, real-time data on strain and deformation, which is critical for ensuring the safety and longevity of buildings. The study examines various types of fiber-optic strain sensors, their working principles, and the advantages they offer over traditional sensing methods, including high sensitivity, resistance to electromagnetic interference, and the ability to function in harsh environments. The research also explores the implementation of these sensors in real-world scenarios, demonstrating their effectiveness in detecting structural changes and potential failures. The findings suggest that intelligent fiber-optic strain sensors are a viable and superior alternative for advanced structural health monitoring, offering significant benefits in terms of accuracy, durability, and data acquisition capabilities.
