Abstract

It is always relevant to study linguistic units that are the result of cognition from a cognitive point of view. Cases where the grammatical meaning is given without any grammatical form in the language system are explained in the field of morphology by the concept of the zero form. The concept of a zero morpheme has been found in the works of scientists since the 19th century, but it has not been studied from a cognitive point of view. The fact that this problem is not considered in relation to cognition shows the importance of the study. Since nouns and verbs are classes of words that convey basic meaning in a language, the broad meaning of the zero morpheme in the case category is the basis for considering the category of verbs as well. The goal of our article is to prove the breadth of meaning of the zero morpheme in the possessive case by analyzing examples. By conducting a survey of philology students, their knowledge of the zero morpheme is determined. The research uses survey, modeling and analysis methods. The survey results show that students have difficulties determining the cognitive function of the zero morpheme. Based on the analysis of examples, the structure of the zero form in the possessive case was modeled. The results of the study help determine the cognitive function of zero form, which is considered a universal phenomenon characteristic of all languages.
