This article examines the methodological foundations of accounting for financial instruments in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 9 "Financial Instruments." The study analyzes the principles of classification and measurement of financial assets and financial liabilities, the expected credit loss (ECL) model as a fundamentally new approach to impairment recognition, and the key provisions of hedge accounting. The paper also discusses the major challenges faced by entities during the transition from IAS 39 to IFRS 9 and provides practical recommendations for improving accounting practices. The findings highlight the significance of the IFRS 9 requirements in enhancing the relevance, reliability, and transparency of financial reporting.
