Abstract

This article examines the formation and development of the theory of motivation of complex words in Kazakh linguistics from a scientific perspective. The aim of the study is to determine the role of motivation in the formation of complex lexical units and to describe their word-formation, semantic, and nominative characteristics. The article analyzes the theoretical foundations of the concepts of motive, motivation, motivatedness, nomination, and motivology, drawing on the works of both Kazakh and international scholars. Particular attention is given to the scientific contributions of Professor Balkiya Kassym regarding complex lexical units and their significance in contemporary Kazakh word formation. Furthermore, the semantic, structural, and syntactic integrity of complex lexical units, their degrees of motivatedness, word-formation types, and semantic features are thoroughly discussed. The relationship between nomination theory and motivation, the issues of primary and secondary nomination, as well as phonetic, morphological, semantic, and syntactic types of motivation, are explained using authentic linguistic data. The study also demonstrates the influence of cognitive and ethnocultural factors on the formation of terms expressing measurement concepts and proposes their classification according to motivational features. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the nature of complex lexical units in the Kazakh language, the advancement of word-formation theory, and the further development of research in the field of motivology.
