The article analyzes the role and effectiveness of essay writing in developing writing skills among Grade 5 students from a scientific and methodological perspective. One of the key indicators of communicative competence required by the updated curriculum is the ability to write accurately, express ideas coherently, and formulate well-argued opinions. In this regard, the essay genre is considered an effective tool for developing students’ language competence, creative thinking, and reflection skills. The study examines methodological recommendations accumulated in pedagogical practice, scholarly works, and specific curricula, highlighting their effective aspects. The systematic organization of the stages of essay writing, the age-appropriateness of tasks, and a multidimensional model for assessing writing activities constitute the core focus of the article. In addition, the psycholinguistic foundations of teaching writing in Grade 5, the specific features of students’ mastery of text structure, and conclusions presented in professional literature were used as scientific evidence. The research findings demonstrate that the essay-writing method is highly effective in developing students’ writing literacy.
