This article explores the role of play-based learning in developing children’s functional literacy with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). Play is considered one of the most effective methods for fostering curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills among young learners. By integrating AI-powered tools into game-based activities, children are provided with adaptive tasks that match their individual pace and abilities. Such tools not only make the learning process more engaging but also enhance critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The study highlights how digital platforms, interactive games, and intelligent tutoring systems can strengthen reading, writing, and analytical skills while promoting motivation. At the same time, the article discusses challenges such as balancing screen time, ensuring data privacy, and maintaining pedagogical effectiveness. The findings suggest that combining AI with play-based methods creates an innovative educational environment that nurtures both functional literacy and lifelong learning competencies in children.
