FORMATION OF FUNCTIONAL LITERACY THROUGH TASKS IN CHEMISTRY LESSONS

Abstract

This article explores effective strategies for organizing and applying formative assessment within short-term lesson plans in chemistry classes to enhance students' functional literacy. Through formative assessment, students’ critical thinking, analysis, comparison, and argumentation skills are strengthened, which in turn increases their engagement with the subject. The study outlines methods that improve the quality of instruction and enable objective evaluation of student learning. According to Kazakhstan’s State Program for the Development of Education for 2020–2025, a primary goal is to enhance global competitiveness in education and science while fostering students based on universal human values. In this context, developing functional literacy through chemistry education is viewed as a key means of strengthening students' real-life competencies. The article also presents practical examples and tasks aimed at improving the learning process.
