The article discusses the features of developing reading interest and reading skills in primary school students. It analyzes the requirements for forming reader interest, students' motivations for reading, forms of organizing work with books, and the teacher's role. Currently, reading is considered one of the highest intellectual functions, as it changes one's perspective, deepens understanding, enriches experience, influences behavior, and plays an important role in personal development. Special attention is given to working with literary texts, analyzing their content, and methods for encouraging students to read books. Additionally, the article examines the teacher's methodological approaches and effective strategies for fostering reader interest. In general, the article emphasizes the importance of awakening a love for reading and developing reading culture among primary school students.
